(This post was initially published March 9,2023, and updated August 16,2025).

The rate of gun violence is high, and random shootings are commonplace in our country.  They are present in our schools, churches, malls, jobs, and everywhere.   Drive-by shootings are not uncommon, and without the protection of our Lord and Savior, death is on every hand.  But thank God that His Will is sovereign.  Life and death are in His hands, and those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior can put complete trust in Him as Protector.

Thank God for His protection.  He has promised us that he will keep us safe.  The Holy Scriptures remind us that we need not fear what Satan has planned for us when our faith and trust are in Him.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).

Included in this post is a living testimony of a young woman who is saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost.  She loves the Lord and trusts her very life to His protection and in His capable hands.  She is alive and well because God is her protector.  Without Him, her story would be so different today.

God is My Protector, Jehovah Nissi

by  Aundia D. Rogers

As a Bible-believing Christian,  the book of 2 Samuel 22:2-7 reads:

And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

I will call on the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

It was a late Sunday night, slightly after 11 pm, when sleep began to overcome me. Although I had to work the next day, I didn’t have to log in as early, and I planned to purposely stay up late. But I couldn’t fight off the heaviness of sleep any longer. I’d placed a load of clothes into the washing machine, so I stayed awake to put them in the dryer, then drifted off into a deep sleep.

Suddenly, I awoke to the sounds of my home security alarm. I walked lightly through my home but saw no evidence that someone had broken in. I disabled the alarm, and as I walked back to my living/bedroom area, I noticed small white, sparkling fragments on the floor. I looked through my home for clues about what had happened, but I wasn’t coherent enough to figure it out! I then noticed a hole in one of my kitchen cabinets, and while trying to make sense of everything, saw pieces of my living room blinds were missing and a hole in the window behind. This explained the “white, sparkling fragments” on the floor.

This is what had just taken place.  A bullet had entered through my top window, traveled into one of my kitchen cabinets, ricocheted off the back inside wall of the cabinet, hitting one of my porcelain bowls, where it landed and remained!  And so, I came to the conclusion, from a spiritual perspective, that the enemy and his bullet tried to take me out around 2 A. M., but GOD is my Protector!

The Book of Isaiah 54:17 reads:

17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord.

GOD spared my life! It was the reason I was overtaken by sleep.  The LORD allowed sleepiness to block Satan’s plan to kill me. The cabinet where the bullet landed is above where I’d typically charge my phone, and the bullet would have hit me smack in the back of my head.   But God is my Protector!

I’m still in the land of the living, unharmed, safe, and whole! To GOD be the Glory!!!   There is still work for me to do for the LORD, and I’m grateful for the PRIVILEGE of serving HIM!

The Book of 1 Peter 4:12 reads, as I conclude my testimony:

Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:”

What a testimony of protection.  Saints have the promise and privilege that God will protect us from hurt, harm, and dangers, seen and unseen.

We live in a day and time in which danger is on every hand.  The Bible warns us that in the last days, perilous times shall come.  2 Timothy 3:1-5 has this to say about the last days:

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Psalms 91 is a precious and beloved scripture that we can lean on and depend on.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;

10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

We who are saved and have accepted Jesus as our Lord and Savior can rest and even sleep in complete dependence upon God as our protector.  We can walk through these evil days without fear of what might befall us.  If you do not know Him as your Lord and Savior, this is an open invitation to allow Him to become your Protector.  Times are going to get worse, and you don’t want to leave home…or stay at home…without Him.

Perhaps after you’ve heard this young woman’s testimony, you also want to be saved.  You may feel conviction for your life of sin and desire to be set free.   Perhaps you want to live for God in the same way that she continues to live for Him today.  You can!  God loves you so much that He sent his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for you so that your soul can be saved.

The method for salvation that God put in place is a very simple one.   You simply repent of your sins, invite Jesus to save you, and commit to living for Him.  He is well able to save your soul and keep you if you want to be kept.  Next, ask God for the power of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues.  You need this power to live the life that He requires.

Repeat the words that I will provide or similar ones, and you are saved.  Remember, I can provide the words, but you must give the sincerity.  Say, “Father, forgive me of all my sins.  Save my soul.  If you save me, I will live for you forever.”

Once you have made your commitment to God and you mean it with all your heart, your soul will be immediately translated from the Kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light.  Jesus will come into your heart and let you know that you are saved.

Next, ask God for the infilling of the Holy Ghost.  The Bible says in Luke 11:13 that He will give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks for it.

13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

Ask for the infilling of the Holy Ghost in this way:  “Father, fill me with the Holy Ghost.”   You will know that you are filled with the Spirit because you will speak in new tongues.  You will receive a prayer language that empowers your spirit to communicate with God and empowers you to live a holy life.

Mark 16:17 says

17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

Acts 1:8 also tells us that we will receive the power that we need to live the life that God requires when we receive the Holy Ghost.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Persist in prayer until you receive the Holy Ghost, evidenced by speaking in tongues and the power to live holy.

Once you are saved, you are a new creature in Christ Jesus, and you need to become a part of a body of believers, a church, which will help you in your new walk with the Lord.  Read from the Holy Bible every day and expect the Lord to speak to you from His Word.  I invite you who are in the US to look for one of the 30+ Full Gospel Holy Temple Churches near you.  They are listed on our website, https://www.FGHT.org.

I also invite you to join my church’s YouTube community.  We livestream our services on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sunday mornings and evenings, and would love for you to join us.  We love you and are praying that God will bless you abundantly.  You may also contact me with questions, prayer requests, or to simply discuss the Lord through the comments section of any of the 240+ posts on my blog, w.w.w.strollingthrougharosegardencalledlife.blog.  May God bless you all.
