Unfulfilled Prophecy #8 – The Battle of Armageddon
After the Antichrist commits the Abomination of Desolation, the Jews will reject him as the Messiah and he will respond with an attempt to destroy them all. This coming battle, which will occur just before Christ sets up His millennial kingdom, is often called the Battle of Armageddon.
Revelation 16:16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon
Zechariah 14:1-2
1 Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city
It is a battle in which God will settle his account with the nations of the world.
Zeph. 3:8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
In Joel 3:13-14, he spoke of the coming Day of the Lord in this way:
13 Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great.
14 Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
When the Antichrist makes his final attempt to kill every Jew, they (the Jews in Jerusalem) must immediately run for the mountains for safety.
Zech. 14:5 Then you shall flee through My mountain valley, for the mountain valley shall reach to Azal. Yes, you shall flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah, the king of Judah.
Rev. 12:13-17
13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
15 And the serpent cast out of his mouth water as a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away of the flood.
16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
This battle will include armies from all nations. Its purpose is not only to attempt to destroy the Jews but also to prevent the return of Jesus Christ. Of course, that purpose will not be fulfilled. Jesus’s victory in this battle will end the Tribulation Period. Jesus and His host will not have to fight because he will end it with the words of His Mouth.
Rev. 19: 11-16
And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
