The Scene Behind the Scene of Halloween

A Commentary

John 3:19-21 (KJV) tells us that Jesus Christ is the light that was sent into the world to illuminate the lives of men to the truth, yet that light was rejected.

¹⁹ And this is the condemnation, that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil.

²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the Light, neither cometh to the Light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

²¹ But he that doeth truth cometh to the Light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

I won’t be dogmatic about what I am about to share concerning Halloween because I realize that most people have already made up their minds about whether they will celebrate this upcoming “holiday”.  But just in case there are some Christians who are still debating about whether or not they should allow their children to participate in its celebration, I will share my views.  Accept or reject them as you will.

In America, Halloween has become the second most popular and second-largest commercial “holiday” that exists.  It supersedes Thanksgiving, Easter and all other holidays with the exception of Christmas. (BTW, has anyone noticed how commercially we speed through Thanksgiving and go straight from Halloween to Christmas?  Christmas decorations are up in stores during or immediately following Halloween.  IJS)

Halloween is an evil, dark, sinister and dangerous night and its darkness will be celebrated, even in some churches.   Some people will dress their innocent babies in costumes of ghouls, goblins, devils and other creatures that represent death, violence, horror and evil and send them on a quest for candy.  True, some parents may choose First Responder costumes or President’s masks, but the evilness of the night still exists.  Witch and warlock costumes will walk the night.

“Trick-or-Treaters’ ” plea for candy is made while the children are young and innocent, causing the babies to associate the evilness of the night with the “goodness” of candy.  (Halloween may even reinforce a life-long lust for added sugar that can be linked to Diabetes, obesity and heart disease which are major plagues to Americans.  But that’s the stuff of another post).

Candy companies capitalize on this “holiday”, and send out major advertising campaigns that are aimed at Halloween.  About $2.6 billion is spent on candy in America.  But what we must remember is that the “holiday” honors Satan, darkness, and evil.  That is the Scene behind the Scene of Halloween.

A few years ago, razor blades and other dangerous objects were placed in apples and given out to “trick or treaters”.  Children that bit into those apples could have been harmed.  Several hospitals agreed to use X-ray equipment to look inside the items that the children collected to make sure that they were safe for consumption.  From a natural point of view, why would parents subject their babies to the possibility of being harmed in this way?  And, with the evilness in the hearts of some men and women today, is it safe to allow your children to consume anything given by others, especially strangers?

Aside from the natural danger in allowing our children to consume sweets provided by others, why would Christians teach children a mixed message about good and evil?  Celebrating Halloween teaches that it’s OK to celebrate Satan and evil as long as we get something out of it that we want.  (Wait.  Isn’t that the Illuminati concept?)  It is my opinion that real Christians, true Saints of the Most High God, refuse to allow Satan to pressure them into conforming to the darker elements of the world.  All the devil wanted Jesus to do in Matthew 4:9 was to worship him.

 ⁹ And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Jesus’s response, however, recorded in Matt. 4:10, was loud and strong:

¹⁰ Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

My conclusion is that Christians should have no part in the evilness of Halloween and they should teach their children the truth concerning the evil behind this “holiday”.

It is for this reason, Dear Ones, that the light on my front porch will be turned off on Halloween and I will not be greeting babies who ring my doorbell with a smile and candy.   I will be inside praying for the safety of the little ones, pleading the blood of Jesus over them and asking God to help their parents understand the Scene behind the Scene of Halloween.  You see, I know that evil and good, darkness and light cannot mix.  The Scriptures let us know that Light is good (Genesis 1:4) and Jesus is the Light of the World (John 1:4).

Please allow the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, to open your eyes to the truth concerning Halloween.  Honor God.  Choose light.  For we are not ignorant of the devil’s devices (2 Corinthians 2:11)…unless we want to be.
